Financeware.com Announces Licensing Agreement With AASim; Adds Monte Carlo Simulation and Mortality Risk Calculation Tool
To Financial Planning Suite
RICHMOND, Va. and ATLANTA, Ga., March 20, 2000 – Financeware.com, a B-2-B application service provider for the financial services industry, today announced an exclusive licensing agreement with AASim (Asset Allocation Simulation Software). Under the terms of the agreement, Financeware.com (www.financeware.com) will offer AASim as one software product in a suite of financial planning tools that allows financial advisors to create, customize and test financial plans for and with their clients.
“Simulation is becoming increasingly popular with both financial advisors and investors,” said David Loeper, president and CEO of Financeware.com. “Investors have a greater sense of empowerment when they know their financial plans have been tested with the best technology available and advisors benefit because they have the tools to produce better plans, thus strengthening their client relationships. AASim is a powerful addition to the Financeware.com suite.”
The AASim desktop software, and a soon to be Web-enabled version called WealthSimulator.com, utilizes Monte Carlo simulation, a forecasting method that uses random numbers to model market and life-span uncertainty. AASim does not assume a constant rate of return and, unlike other Monte Carlo simulation tools on the market today, factors in mortality risk using built-in mortality tables.
“AASim is the only financial planning software that can realistically answer the question, “Will you die broke?” without having to assume a specific age at death,”said Rex Macey, director of product development for Financeware.com. “Ultimately AASim can help an individual take into account his or her own family history -- using a mortality factor specific to that individual -- to determine how much money needs to be saved for retirement and how it should be invested.”
In the same way that a pilot might use a simulator to learn to deal with potential experiences, financial advisors can use simulation to prepare an investor for future markets. The AASim software runs 1000 projections in which the age at death and each year’s return varies, thus showing what might happen if the individual and advisor make certain decisions. And, like Financeware.com’s FinancialPlanAuditors tool
(www.financialplanauditors.com), AASim also takes into account timing risk (the risk of
experiencing bad returns when there is a lot of money in the portfolio and good returns
when there is only a little money). Another benefit to AASim is that it allows advisors to test financial plan results produced by any asset allocation optimization software.
“AASim fills a gap that has existed in the investment process,” said Macey. “In the past, it has been difficult to match opportunities in the capital markets with the needs of the investor. AASim helps in the selection of a strategic investment mix by clearly illustrating both return and risk while measuring the probability of meeting an investment objective.”
